DEFENDING Yorkshire County League Division I Champions Huddersfield Indoor Bowls Club (sponsored by Wrights Publications Ltd of Holmfirth) have managed to bring chaos to this season’s league table with one game only left this season.

Huddersfield, who were third in the league 23 points behind leaders Featherstone (who had played a game more) and 14 points behind the second-placed Ryedale, beat their Malton rivals 16-2 to hang on to third spot and maintain their play-off hopes.

On the individual front Huddersfield had some close calls but just failed to get anyone to the National Championship finals with Jack Dyson missing out at the final hurdle in the National Under 25 singles, as did Harold and Michael Hick in the area final of the National Father and Son pairs.

The same fate also happened to the family Hick team of Jacqueline, Judith, Harold and Michael Hick when they contested the area finals in the National Mixed Fours.

Huddersfield are left with one chance only now to get someone to the National Championships when John Dudding and Jack Dyson play in the area finals of the National Men’s pairs this week when a win will take them through to the final in early April at Nottingham IBC.
