ADAM BEAUMONT is celebrating after sealing a second senior bowling title of his career.

The affable Slaithwaite CBC player scooped the Huddersfield Bowling Association’s Scottish and Newcastle-sponsored Spring Handicap final at Huddersfield RUFC BC with a 21-13 victory against Cowcliffe’s Graham Sigsworth in the final.

Victory came less than a year after Beaumont won the Jack Burgin Trophy (formerly the Mugs Merit) at neighbouring Lockwood Con.

The former Yorkshire County junior adjusted superbly to changing green conditions during Sunday’s rain showers and both finalists paid tribute to greenkeeper John Lockwood for preparing an excellent playing surface.

Sigsworth progressed to the final after narrowly edging past Longwood’s Trevor Holmes 21-19 in the semis after Holmes had taken the scalp of former winner Ashley Daykin 21-20.

And despite the warm but drizzly conditions, the final was one to enjoy in an intriguing contest that pitted a left-hander (Sigsworth) against right-handed Beaumont.

At 12-11 to Beaumont, the young bowler ran up the back of Sigsworth’s short wood to knock his opponent in for two and gift his opponent the lead.

But a couple of ends later proved to be the turning point of the game.

Sigsworth planted his second wood right on the block down the green edge which was greeted with well-deserved applause but the apparently fearless Beaumont struck it off to win the end and draw level at 13-13.

It allowed Beaumont to keep control of the jack and a tight rein on the rest of the final as he ran out 21-13 to claim the £200 winner’s cheque.

She earned it after a 21-16 victory against Lauren Haigh, of Newsome WMC, in the final.

Rhodes took a commanding 16-10 lead against Haigh only for the latter to pull the game back to 18-16.

But from then on Rhodes found an extra gear to run out.
