TALENTED twins Barry and Steven Nicholson, of Meltham, have won more trophies – this time at the Disability Sport England Regional Bowls Competition at the Leeds Indoor Bowls Centre.

All the bowlers are split into their own disability groups.

And Barry and Steven’s group, for people with learning disabilities, was split into two groups with each bowler having to play three opponents.

Barry and Steven both won all their games to top their groups which meant they faced each other in the final.

It was a very competitive game with Steven coming out on top.

This year, for the first time, they also had a drawn pairs competition across all the disability groups and Barry and Steven got through to the final where they were beaten into the runners-up spot.

The boys continue to play at the weekends at Huddersfield Sports Centre in the mixed fours league and recently, when the men’s team were short of players, were selected to play for Huddersfield against Barnsley Metrodome which incidentally Huddersfield won.

Current Yorkshire County League Division I champions Huddersfield continued their defence with a solid 13-5 victory against Hull Indoor Bowls Club.

Huddersfield, sponsored by Wrights Publications Ltd, of Holmfirth, now have 25 points from a possible 36, with plenty of games to go.

The Ladies Over 60s double rink side, from Huddersfield, also had success when they notched up a 34-28 victory against York ladies to progress to the next round of the National Knockout competition, where they will play another team from York IBC.

A Huddersfield Mixed Team, beat Scarborough IBC home and away in the Egham Trophy – another national event – with an 84-79 victory to set up a meeting against North Cave.

Yorkshire Under 25 Double Rinks team also had a great win against a very strong Durham side and the result went right down to the wire with Yorkshire edging home by four points to win 42-38.

The home tie was played at Huddersfield for the first time and Yorkshire now face Nottinghamshire on Sunday, December 2, in the quarter-final.
