RAWTHORPE’S Scott Gladwin is heading for the Amateur Boxing Association lightweight championships in Sheffield next week.

He won a points decision in Leeds against Bradford’s Adam Khan and has been in training for the Sheffield event ever since.

The Rawthorpe club had four boxers in action at Selby, with 13-year-old Brad Jennings winning a comfortable points decision against Hull’s Brandon Stead.

Aaron Davis, the Honley schoolboy who also plays rugby union for Huddersfield and Yorkshire at Under 13 level, boxed Cole Wilson from Halifax and stopped him in the second.

Naz Iqbal from Salendine Nook High, 15, secured a close points win against unbeaten North East boxer Robert Jones in a bout which the ex-England manger, Harry Pritchard, who watched at ringside, said could have topped the bill anywhere in the country.

Last up in Rawthorpe colours was Halifax-born Tom Greenwood, who lost a close decision against Bradford's Faisal Hussain, after a classic tussle.

Over 100 supporters travelled from Rawthorpe ABC for the event.
