HUDDERSFIELD Star Wheelers’ Andy Pearson’s preparations for the National Hill Climb Championships on Sunday are going well.

Pearson took third place in the Huddersfield Road Club promotion on Ripponden Bank.

Fastest on the day was Tejvan Pettinger (Sri Chinmoy CT) who stormed up the 1,320 yard climb in 3 minutes 38.5 seconds to finish 24 seconds ahead of Paul Jones (Bristol South CC), with Pearson another 11 seconds behind.

Several local riders will be battling it out at the National Championships up Dovers Hill, near Coventry, this weekend including Pearson.

National Junior Champion Ben Kellett (VS Cycles) will be defending his title, Harmonie Waterman (Holme Valley Wheelers) has been showing good form this season and Paul Brierley (Huddersfield RC) will be riding the event for the 23rd time.

The Yorkshire Points Winter Cyclo Cross series moved on to Bradley Woods for the Condor Road Club event.

A field of 20 riders took to the start line in the Youth race with Edwyn Oliver Evans (East Bradford CC) the winner.

Best performance from the Huddersfield clubs was Amira Mellor in eighth place and was the first girl home.

The Under 12 race was popular as ever with 50 riders taking part.

Mason Hollyman (Sowerby Bros RT) was an impressive third place with Holme Valley Wheelers Jack Ford in fourth.

Jacob Feetham (Wakefield JTC) won by over 40 seconds from Brad Dransfield (North Midlands Youth Squad).

Felicity Gledhill (Holme Valley Wheelers) was first girl home completing five laps of the course in just over 15 minutes.

The full course over seven laps awaited the Veteran/Women’s race with Richard Binks (Holme Valley Wheelers) once again right up there with leaders.

He claimed third place behind Dan Cook (Peak RC) and Mike Young (Pedalsport CC).

Owen Mitton (Huddersfield RC) finished in 14th with his clubmate Tim Beechill finishing in 26th.
