FORMER Holme Valley Wheeler Leon Gledhill just missed out on a win in the Manchester Regional Track League Premier Division.

The Planet X rider was narrowly beaten into second in the Group I 30-lap Scratch race won by former World Champion Lizzie Armitstead (Garmin Cervelo). Mirfield's Jake Womersley (Aire Valley RT) was fourth.

Armitstead also won the Points Race and the Devil Race in which Womersley was third and Gledhill fourth.

Another rider to come out of the Holme Valley Wheelers Youth team, Jacob Scott (Planet X), was second in the Group II Devil Race behind Jack Penrice (SIS.com) and third in the 50-lap Scratch Race won by Scott’s teammate Alex Minting.

In the top Group III, Huddersfield professional rider Tom Murray (Sigmasport Specialized) got two third places in the 40-lap and 50-lap Scratch races won by Adam Duggleby (SIS.com) and Chris Latham (Planet X) respectively.

The Yorkshire Cyclo Cross Winter season finished off with a madison race at Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club.

Older riders were teamed up with younger riders and then each rider did one lap before handing over to their partner.

Conditions were tricky as there was a howling gale, but this didn’t spoil the riders’ enjoyment in what is essentially a fun event to finish off the season.

Nick Barnes (Zepnat RC) and Marcus Hiley (Pedalsport) came out on top, Kirklees Cycling Academy’s Mason Hollyman was fourth with Andrew Barnard.

Huddersfield Star Wheelers’ father and daughter pairing Ivan and Ruby Boyes ended up in 12th with Ruby not quite getting the idea and making Ivan do more laps while she rested.
