THE Halfords Tour Series Teams have been announced for 2011 and there will be plenty of local interest.

The televised town centre race series will feature defending champions Motorpoint Pro Cycling whose team includes former Huddersfield Star Wheeler James Sampson.

Olympic Champion pursuiter and former Holme Valley Wheeler Ed Clancy makes the switch from Motorpoint to Rapha Condor Sharp for the series.

Also featuring will be Lindley’s Tom Murray riding for Sigma Sport Specialized, Richard Hepworth (CyclePremier.com Metaltek) and Liam Holohan (Team Raleigh).

Former Batley CC rider Holohan had his first win of the season on Sunday at the Evesham Vale Road Race in Worcestershire.

Holohan got into a break of seven riders in the 88km race for Elite, first and second category riders along with three teammates and they worked well to stay clear of the chasing bunch.

On the last lap the Team Raleigh riders made the most of their strength in numbers and split the break up with Holohan, Matt Jones and James Sparling racing away to contest the win.

Holohan took the honours, followed by Jones and Sparling with Matt Cronshaw making it a Team Raleigh top four.

Former Holme Valley Wheeler Jacob Scott (Planet X) was fourth in the 50 lap points race at the Premier Division Track League at Manchester Velodrome.

An impressive result considering Scott is riding in Group 3 – the fastest group.

Adam Duggleby (SIS.com) took the win.

Huddersfield Star Wheeler’s Go Ride coaching sessions for 6-14 year olds continue at Newsome High School and Sports College every Saturday 3-4pm. Phone Ivan on 01484 302846 for more information.
