DEIGHTON Leisure Centre B are through to the final of both Handicap cup competitions.

The current holders of the CSD Logistics Cup will meet Marsh Conservative Club E in a bid to retain the trophy.

The talented Polish trio defeated their colleagues in the C team by 41 points in the semi-final, while Marsh overcame Scissett WMC B by a 45 point margin to reach the final.

Deighton’s hopes of a double cup success remain strong as they defeated Kingsmith F by 22 points to reach the final of the Concord Trophy where they will meet Kingsmith E who had a narrow eight point win over Wilshaw B.

The dates and venues for the finals are to be arranged in consultation with the finalists.

In League action, Scissett WMC A took a great step towards retaining their First Division status with a 9-1 victory over rivals Kingsmith B – a result which looks almost certain to condemn Kingsmith to relegation together with Marsh Conservative B.

After a strong season, Marsh D look to have sealed promotion to the top flight where they should be joined by Woodfield Park B if, as expected, they defeat a weakened Golcar Liberal A.

Kingsmith C would dearly like to replace their B team in the first division but are likely to be just a few points short at the end.

All will become clear as key fixtures are played in the coming days.

The League Management Committee have granted a week’s extension for fixtures to be completed.

The heavy snow in late March caused some matches to be postponed, giving little opportunity for rescheduling until now.

The Committee has also decided that this year’s Summer League will be restricted to 16 teams with entries being on a first come , first served basis.

The reduced capacity in the Hudawi Centre has necessitated this move but nonetheless it is hoped that the success of Summer League in recent seasons will continue.

Late entries for the Closed Championships will be accepted up till 7pm tomorrow, when the draw will be made at Kingsmith Engineering.

The event, which takes place on Sunday, April 28, at Deighton Leisure Centre, has already attracted over 45 entries including a high quality field for the coveted singles competition.
