HUDDERSFIELD’S teenage show jumper George Whitaker was the winner in the Maubeuge 40,000€ Grand Prix in France.

The 19 year-old and his long-standing partner Tubana, a horse owned by Sally McSharry, jumped one of only four double clears round the 1.50m course.

Whitaker won with a jump off time on 46.50 seconds, 0.49 seconds faster than closest rival Regis Villain.

And George wasn’t the only one of the famous Whitaker dynasty to prosper as cousin Louise also impressed in the event finishing in eighth position, followed by other British entrants Laura Renwick, in ninth, and Tim Stockdale was a place further back.
