FORMER England cricket captain Michael Vaughan (inset) is asking Examiner readers to get involved in his charity cycle ride in September.

His plan for Chance to Ride is to cycle between the England v Australia One-day Internationals and he’d like 50 fundraisers to sign up for each stage.

Michael and his supporters – raising money for the Laureus Sport for Good foundation and cricket’s Chance to Shine – will ride through this area on Saturday, September 7, on the leg between Headingley and Old Trafford.

There is a £250 registration fee for each stage and fundraisers will be asked to achieve a target of £1,200, but all hotel accommodation is provided and there are free tickets to the ODIs.

Michael, who will be riding every mile of the trip and inviting celebrity guests along the way, said: “Both charities make a big difference to children’s lives through sport and everyone who takes part will be doing a great job in supporting us.

“Anyone can take part – you don’t have to be an Olympian by any means – and we are planning to have a lot of fun along the way as well as enjoying some great cricket.

“There is always a lot of buzz surrounding England v Australia, and especially this year with it being a double Ashes year, so what better way than to get involved and help raise money for two charities which do so much?”

Phil Tufnell, Louis Smith and Denise van Outen are among the celebrities who have agreed to take part in the event, which is sponsored by PruProtect and runs from Friday, September 6, the one day international in Leeds, through to Tuesday, September 17, in London.
