Talented Aaron Schnacke has just broken the course record for 36 holes at Fixby.

Playing in the AL Woodhead Trophy, the plus-one handicapper and former Union Champion shot a 66 and 68 gross – taking his handicap down to plus two.

Club professional Alex Keighley said: “They were sensational rounds of golf in very tough conditions.

“The course is playing very hard with preparations for a busy few weeks of competitions at the club.”

The biggest upcoming event is the Yorkshire Amateur Championship, which will be held at Huddersfield from Tuesday to Saturday, July 2 to 6.

A total of 141 players will play rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the leading 32 qualifying for matchplay knockout on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the final over 36 holes.

Organisers are hoping that golf enthusiasts will turn out in force to support the event and enjoy watching low-scoring golf.
