Charles Keenan won the Captain’s Prize at Woodsome Hall.

Keenan scored nett scores of 76 and 67 (143) playing off a handicap of six to take the major prize of the club’s Captain’s Weekend.

Runner-up was the Woodsome Hall’s marketing manager Richard Holt (2) with nett scores of 75 and 68 (143), finishing second on countback, while third was Bob Kinnon (10) with 75 and 71 (146).

All those tied for 50th place and better qualified for Sunday’s stroke round.

As with many local courses over the last couple of weeks, the course was in excellent condition with very fast greens.

Despite the fair pin placings, only six players shot par or better.

Best gross was recorded by scratch golfer Matthew Colcombe, who shot 73 and 81 (154), and Best Senior was John Derbyshire (19) with nett 68 and 79.

Best Junior was 12-year-old Isaac Turner (18) with net scores of 70 and 68 (138).

Turner could not win the Captain’s Prize, but spoke well and thanked all for their hard work to make the course and weekend so successful.

The Captain said that Turner was a star in the making and no doubt the Halifax-Huddersfield Union and Yorkshire will be looking at his performances.

The two days of competition were run by club professional John Eyre and his assistants.
