Chris Hanson has been inundated with messages of congratulations and good luck since winning his European Tour card for next year.

The 30-year-old Woodsome Hall player will step up from the Challenge Tour to play with the elite as early as next week – in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek in South Africa – after successfully negotiating the Qualifying School Final in PGA Catalunya Resort, Spain, on Thursday.

He finished seven under par for the six rounds to join the top 25 and ties who qualified – a fantastic achievement he immediately dedicated to his late father, John .

Hanson posted a picture on social media of himself and caddie Steve Tooby celebrating with a McDonald’s meal.

Then, early on Friday, Hanson tweeted:

Hanson described the last-hole clinching putt as “a twitchy bum downhill 2ft putt” and thanked everyone for their messages of support throughout the week.

Friend Paul Hesselden messaged: “A brilliant and wonderful exhibition of determination, dedication and hard work. Well done Chris.

“A great example to younger and older golfers!”

Stephen Ellis added: “Chris, at least the big tour consists of four-round tournaments not like the six you had to play this week.

“Just keep producing good consistent results and you will do well.”

John Harrison posted: “I remember playing in the Weds Am Am with you and your dad and we won. Your dad would be very proud of you now, he will be looking down on you!”

Johnny Lindley said: “Nice one Chris. I still remember that tiny kid in Lindley Rec with a plastic golf club set.”
