ONE of Huddersfield Golf Club’s brightest young prospects, Amelia Covell, has just earned a very satisfactory finish in the Scottish Girls Under 16 Championships.

Amelia, who plays off just 9.6 handicap, shot rounds of 82 and 78 at Craigielaw to finish in a very respectable 17th place out of a field of 102 girls, all of whom were considerably older than the Fixby prospect, who has just celebrated her 13th birthday.

She was one of several girls from the Yorkshire area to travel up to East Lothian for the Open Championship, and the student at Crossley Heath School will be entering a number of similar Opens this year.

Amelia is already an established member of the Yorkshire Girls side, along with her elder sister, Imogen, who is 16 and now plays off a handicap of 5.6.

Together they were members of the Yorkshire team who took on the Hull Boys team in a recent match at Scarborough, where the Covell girls were the only two Yorkshire winners.
