TOP club professionals from around the country will descend on Crosland Heath on Monday, when the Halifax, Huddersfield Alliance again play host to the National Alliance competition.

It will be the second year in succession that the National event has come to our area – in 2010 it was staged at Halifax Ogden – and there promises to be another big entry from as far afield as the Home Counties.

The Hertfordshire Alliance are sending five pairs to Crosland Heath, as are the Leicester and Rutland Alliance, while there are also two teams coming from Nottingham, Derbyshire and Liverpool and further competitors from East Lancashire and Manchester.

Each team comprises five pairs, and the Halifax, Huddersfield Alliance are sending out four full teams with nine club professionals, including host club pro Richard Lambert from the Heath, along with Gareth Evans (Crow Nest Park), Rob Booth (Bradley Hall), Dave Astin (Woodsome Hall), Julian Haworth (Willow Valley), David Delaney (Halifax), John Ambler (Longley Park), Darren Arber (West End) and Tom Wild (Bradley Park).

Halifax, Huddersfield Alliance president Trevor Williams and secretary Barry Isles are optimistic of being able to boast a final total of 50 professionals in this year’s competition which gets under way with an 8am tee-off.
