A PLACE in the Yorkshire qualifying competition for the English Junior Club championship will be at stake when Meltham defend the Halifax, Huddersfield Union Junior Team championship, sponsored by Berties of Elland, at Outlane on June 6.

Jamie Bower was the leading individual on 72 when Meltham carried off the title over their home course last year.

Clubs can enter one team of four, playing individually alongside those of other clubs, and three of each team must have a handicap of 20 or below, the fourth member having a handicap of 28 or less. Three best gross scores from four will count.

Host club Outlane start the ball rolling at 7.30, their four teams going out at nine-minute intervals along with teams from Willow Valley.

Starting times follow at 8.06 when Huddersfield, Meltham and Bradley Park go out; 8.42 - Crow Nest Park, Castlefields, Saddleworth; 9.18 - Lightcliffe, Hebden Bridge, Hanging Heaton; 10.04 - Crosland Heath, Longley Park, Halifax; 10.42 - Elland, Bradley Hall, Marsden; 11.18 - Dewsbury, Woodsome Hall, West End.
