IT WAS certainly a case of ‘home rule’ when the Huddersfield, Halifax Ladies Winter League held their final event of the season at Halifax Ogden.

For the host club sent out both the first and second placed finishers, and in total filled four of the first six pairings home.

A total of 48 couples, representing 17 clubs, played in stunning weather conditions, but it was Jean Thomson and Gill Clutterbuck who had a scorching round with 38 points, four more than their nearest rivals and club colleagues Pat Horrocks-Taylor and Margaret Crawshaw.

Breaking up the Ogden monopoly was Linda Hirst and Eirys Hartley from Bradley Hall, who shared joint third with another Halifax pairing, Sheila Terry and Eunice Harland.

Leading results were: 1 Jean Thompson and Gill Clutterbuck (Halifax Ogden) 38pts; 2 Pat Horrocks-Taylor and Margaret Crawshaw (Halifax Ogden) 32; 3 Linda Hirst and Eirys Hartley (Bradley Hall) 32; 3 Sheila Terry and Eunice Harland 32; 5 Vicky Holden and Jane Sutherland (Lightcliffe) 32 (lost on back nine); 6 Wendy Smith and Pam Rogers (Halifax Ogden) 31.
