HUDDERSFIELD Ladies Golf champion Rochelle Morris has reached the 16th Grand Final of the Nick Faldo Series.

She went through after winning the first Faldo Series UK Championship of 2012 at Moortown.

The 16-year-old, who represents Huddersfield Golf Club, took first place in the Under 21 category with a stunning one-under-par gross round of 74, after finishing with a birdie and an eagle.

And that was sufficient to win her the tournament after the second round of the 36-hole event was cancelled because a snowstorm rendered the course unplayable, leaving organisers to rule that final positions stood after one round.

It was an excellent performance from Morris, who was making her first serious outing of the season, as she finished three shots clear of her nearest rivals in a very strong field which included an England international and Yorkshire county players.

Trailing in her wake were Northern Girls Under 18 champion Ellie Goodall, from Selby, and Yorkshire Girls champion Olivia Winning from Rotherham, who both finished two over par.

Morris won the UK Faldo Series two years ago at both Under 16 and 21 level, but this year is only eligible in the Under 21 section.

She now goes forward to the European Grand Final at Lough Erne, in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, in September – the event being played over three days and 54 holes.

Next up for Morris, who is coached by Woodsome Hall professional John Eyre, is the Yorkshire Ladies Championship at Pannal next month, May 1 to 3.
