Huddersfield amateur Nick Marsh flew back into England on Wednesday – but it was literally a flying visit.

Tomorrow, Nick jets off to South America with three other players in England’s Elite Squad to play in the South American Amateur Championship at Barranquilla Country Club, Columbia.

The tournament consists of four rounds of strokeplay and last year’s winner was Englishman Callum Shinkwin, who also won the English Amateur Championship before turning professional.

Marsh finds himself in good company for the Columbia trip.

The other squad members are European Amateur champion Ashley Chesters (Hawkstone Park, Shropshire & Herefordshire), along with Paul Howard (Southport & Ainsdale) and Jimmy Mullen (Royal North Devon).

Before leaving he said: “I am delighted once again to have been selected to represent England Golf.

“I changed my flight to come back from training early so I could play in the Columbia tournament.”

Marsh burst onto the international scene after reaching the last eight in the British Amateur Championship at Royal Cinque Ports last June.

He was three under par when his match against Max Orrin ended on the 15th.

He also reached the last 16 of the English Amateur Championship and was runner-up in the North of England Open Amateur Golf Championship

Marsh, who lives in Elland when he is not jet-setting around the world, has spent the winter to date practising in the Sudan at the Fenti Golf Club, where his father, David, is professional.

After the South American tournament he travels to Portugal to play in the Portuguese Amateur Championship at La Montado Golf Club, Lisbon. From there he flies straight on to southern Spain to prepare for the Spanish Amateur at La Reserva Golf Club.

The competition ( HIDE: Colombia) starts next Wednesday, January 22.

The Halifax, Huddersfield and District Union of Golf Clubs’ Executive has unanimously approved the Past Presidents’ nomination of Bryan Webb, of Huddersfield Golf Club, to be President Elect for 2014 (President 2015).
