Home player Jamie Smith won the Halifax-Huddersfield District Golf Alliance Page Trophy at Halifax Ogden in the final event of the series.

Smith, playing off a handicap of plus one, shot a very impressive 67 gross (68 net) twice for a four under par net total of 136, beating the field by two clear shots.

A tie for second on 138 was resolved by a back 18 countback in favour of Ryan Greenwood of Elland (71, 67) playing off scratch, from Paul Marsland of Crosland Heath (67,71) playing off off 13.

Early fog had threatened to spoil the event early on and tee times were delayed by 75 minute.

Fortunately, the then fog lifted fairly quickly and the sun appeared before noon. With virtually no wind, conditions were favourable for low scoring.

The Ogden course was in fine condition although, being fairly elevated, was just short of its summer standard.

The Colin H Swain Trophy for best professional won by Gareth Evans, of Crow Nest Park, with 71 and 71 for 142. He narrowly beat Nigel Hirst of Dewsbury District – 73,70 for 143 – with Rob Stansfield, of Bradley Park, the only other professional to complete the course.

The Emmie Smith Team Trophy went to Crosland Heath with a total of 433 scored by Ade Wallis (9), Oliver Shaw (7) and Simon Whitam (12).

Best Gross went to Adam Crum (1), of Dewsbury District with 74,70 for 144. Best morning round was won by Rod Speight (4), of Dewsbury District, with 67 net, and best afternoon round went to Noel Ward (15), of Crosland Heath, with a superb 64 net.

The new Roger Heap Memorial Cup was fiercely contested.

Tim Copley (14) of Ryburn won with a net 68 on a countback from Brian Moroney (16) of Outlane, with Clive McFadzean (5) of Bradley Hall in third with 69.

The rearranged Alliance at Outlane was held on Tuesday, after the March competition was cancelled after torrential rain.

This time the golfers enjoyed a bright, sunny day with occasional cloud and a cool breeze.

The course was dry, greens were good, but not yet perfect. Therr was plenty of grass of the fairways and the rough was to be avoided at all costs, as it was lush and resistant.

In the Pro-Am, Gareth Evans and Richard Langley-Webb (9), of Crow Nest Park, just edged out Tom Wild and Gary Ward (8), of Bradley Park, thanks largely to the chip-in net albatross on the par five 12th. Gary Ward had a net eagle on the par four second and Enzo Sechi net eagled the par four 10th.

In the Am-Am, Dave Mitcheson (13) and Peter Ford (18) of Bradley Park and Outlane won with 42 points. There was a three-way tie for second place, resolved on back nine countback in favour of Steve Hopkinson (6) and Alliance President Mick Appleyard (7) of Bradley Hall. Net eagles were achieved by Mark Campbell, Lenny Campey, Dave Knapton, John Lawton and John Morris.

The Club Professional Order of Merit went to Nigel Hirst on 57 points from Tom Wild on 44.

Leading points score of 64 went to touring pro Gareth Evans., while the champion club was Dewsbury District with 409 points from Crosland Heath on 405 and Bradley Hall on 402.

There was an entry of seven professionals and 30 pairs.
