CALLING all junior golfers from the Huddersfield and Halifax area.

Halifax Golf Club (Ogden) is hosting the annual Junior Claret Cup this year, and the organisers are desperately looking for more entries for what promises to be an excellent competition on Thursday, June 7.

Clubs in the area are invited to enter as many junior teams as they wish for a tournament which not only has a beautiful miniature replica of the Open Claret jug for the winning team, but also individual prizes.

The tournament is sponsored by David and Janet Cox, who not only provide the prizes, but also supply players with snacks and a drink before they go out, and then provide a meal on completion of their round.

Competition spokesman Bob Hazelden said: “The event is an ideal opportunity for clubs to enter their juniors in a competition who would not normally play in their teams, and it is also a Stableford event, which means a really bad hole from a player will not necessarily harm their score.

“Clubs can enter as many team players as they like (boys and girls), and they do not need to have club handicaps, as they can play in the competition off the maximum 28 handicap.”

The event is held at a different club each year, and the cost of entry is £6 per player.

The best two scores in each team will count towards the Cup, and the competition gets under way at 8.30am.
