OUTLANE Golf Club celebrated their annual dinner when captain Keith Birchenall took great pride in reflecting on one of the club’s most successful years for their various teams.

The Scratch team won their League to gain promotion to the Second Division for the first time in the club’s history, while the Handicap side held their own in the top division which they reached for the first time last season.

Birchenall paid a special tribute however, to Outlane’s junior side, represented by Nathan Lockwood, Jack Bates, Tom Wimpenny, Joe Blackwell, Michael Thomas and Tom Marsden, who won through the regional finals.

They defeated rival teams from the Halifax, Huddersfield Union and won the League’s Championship final play-off to reach the Northern Area finals at Alwoodley.

And there they acquitted themselves brilliantly by finishing in fourth place, despite having to endure the worst of the weather.

Guests at the dinner were also entertained by Union President Phil Tatlock, himself an Outlane member, who gave an account of his year to date as Union figurehead, while the principal speaker was Danny Doolittle.

The Slack Lane club are holding a Sports Quiz on Tuesday (7.30) to raise funds. Entry costs £20 for a four-person team, which includes supper and prizes.

Everyone is welcome and can just turn up on the night or enter a team by contacting the club on 01422 374762 or Bob Hazelden on 01484 655097.
