Stormy weather didn’t affect Outlane’s 15-year-old junior Ryan Lawton in the club’s February medal.

He played an exceptional round and won the Second Division prize with a magnificent 45 points, finishing three points clear of second placed Marc Webb.

In third place with 39 points was Paul Reynolds, who beat Andrew Fearnley and Roger Patrice with a better back nine.

First Division prize went to Martin Jackson with 41 points. He beat Chris Rothery by one point, and then there was a trio on 39 points. Paul Reynolds claimed third prize with a better back nine ahead of Andrew Fearnley and Roger Patrice.

Outlane’s juniors were also to the fore when the club hosted Meltham in the ladies’ Mail on Sunday competition.

Young sisters Charlotte and Jessica Hirst both notched up wins to help Outlane to a 4-1 victory.

With Lady Captain Ann Hesselden also adding to Christine Lamont’s win, Outlane go through to the next round where the ladies of Bradley Hall await them.

The Wednesday Society is up and running again.

There were 24 entries for the meeting at Elland Golf Club, with players from Marsden and Outlane emerging victorious.

A round of 66 saw Englishman Matt Ford go clear at the top of the Africa Open leaderboard midway through the second day at the East London Golf Club.

Ford shot a five-under 67 on the opening day and went one better after being handed an early tee time on Friday, leaving himself a shot clear on 11 under.

An eagle two at the par-four 12th was the pick of the round, allied to six birdies and one bogey on the penultimate hole.

Ford had shared the overnight lead with Ireland’s Kevin Phelan, who had an afternoon start and was shaping up to make a strong case of his own after picking up two strokes with an eagle three at the third.

Eduardo de la Riva was in the clubhouse in second spot, one back from Ford, after carding a 66 containing eight birdies and two bogeys.

Jaco van Zyl was leading the local charge, also shooting six under for the day to go eight under for the tournament.

Germany’s Maximilian Kieffer made an early case for round of the day with a stunning nine-under 63.
