A third success in South Africa is looking increasingly on the cards for Meltham golfer Jamie Bower.

He powered his way into the last eight on the fourth day of the South African Amateur Open with two impressive matchplay wins.

Bower earned his place in the last 16 with a 4&2 victory over home golfer Emilio Pera from the Eagle Canyon club.

That pitted him against another South African in Calum Fyfe from Cawder Golf Club and once again Bower was in control winning 3&1.

The 22-year-old, who finished in joint 12th place after the first two qualifying rounds of strokeplay at the George Golf Club, now faces Loris Schuepbach of Switzerland for a place in the semi-finals.

Bower, who has moved into the world’s top 50 amateur rankings, has already won the Southern Cape strokeplay and the Gauteng North Open, and made a strong showing in last week’s Cape Province Open.
