The Examiner Overseas Golf Challenge is going back to Turkey – by popular demand.

After 20 years of trips to Spain and Portugal, the Examiner broke the mould last year and headed to Belek in western Turkey.

The trip was such an unqualified success that co-organiser David Lockwood said it was a “no-brainer” to return for 2015.

He said: “We had some 45 people go on last year’s trip and it was so successful, everybody said how much they had enjoyed it, so we are going back this year.

“This year we have a brand new hotel, the five-star Sueno Hotel Deluxe, and we are benefiting from an introductory price deal – we would probably not be able to afford it otherwise.

“The standard of the Belek golf courses is excellent, they are very well manicured and maintained.”

He added: “Last year we played the Montgomery, where they held the Turkish Open, and it was a superb course, but a tough challenge for mid handicappers.

“This year we have the Pines and the Dunes; two great courses with wide fairways and plenty of water.

“We will also be playing TAT, which is an unfortunate name for a fabulous course!

“We went to Portugal and Spain for 20 years, but I think they are pricing themselves out of the market.

“Turkey was fantastic and the Turkish people are so friendly. The service was very good; they were really pleased that we were there.

“The courses were better than anything we had played in Spain or Portugal.”

The Overseas Challenge is seven nights from Tuesday, November 3, with flights from Manchester to Antalya.

Five days of competition golf, five-star accommodation and all meals and drinks are included. Two spa treatments are included for non-golfers.

The competitions are three rounds of the Examiner Challenge, a fourball Stableford and a fourball betterball.

Price is £1,199 for golfers and £985 for non-golfers.

Lockwood added: “Anybody with a golf handicap is eligible and welcome to join us for what will be an excellent trip.”
