THERE was an excellent turn-out for the Halifax, Huddersfield & District Golf Union’s Annual Dinner at Bertie’s Banqueting Rooms.

Around 210 people attended the dinner (sponsored by Circle Golf) when the Union celebrated a successful 2012 season with the Seniors finishing runners-up to Sheffield in both the Yorkshire Inter-District League and the Six-man Team Championship.

Thanks to the generosity of this year’s Yorkshire Union president, Stephen Larard, who kindly provided the inaugural prizes to mark the runners-up, the team were presented with cut-glass trophies to mark their second place in the two Inter-District events.

Woodsome Hall professional and the Union’s coach (and sponsor) John Eyre spoke on behalf of the Union’s sponsors, while President-elect J Philip Thompson proposed a toast to the guests, which included the presidents and secretaries from the York, Sheffield, Bradford, Leeds, East Riding, Harrogate and Teesside Unions.

The Yorkshire Union president proposed a toast to the Halifax, Huddersfield Union, responded to by out-going president Phil Tatlock, while ex-Salford police commander Brian Wroe was the final speaker, John Cocking undertaking the role of toastmaster.
