The Halifax-Huddersfield Union team allowed Sheffield to build a four-point lead in the foursomes at the recent away match at Sitwell Park.

They came back all guns blazing in the afternoon singles, but didn’t quite manage to pull of a victory, eventually losing by 17 points to 19.

The damage had been done in the morning session, after which they were down by four points to eight.

Only the pairing of Jarrard Hazeldean, Outlane, and Andy Wilford, Crosland Heath, took the full two points, with a 2&1 win.

The first two pairings out were Jamie Smith, Ogden, with Richard Broadley, Huddersfield, and Steve Martin, West End, with Graham MacLean Meltham, and both of these managed halves. But Sheffield claimed all the other foursomes points.

Andy Wilford remained unbeaten, winning his afternoon singles match. Others worthy of mention were the Colcombe brothers, both now playing at Dewsbury, their father’s club, after Matt left Woodsome. Matt won his match 1up and Adam posted an impressive 4&3 victory, the team’s biggest win.

Jamie Smith, Steve Martin and Ben Adamson, Crow Nest, also won their matches.

Their next fixture in the Yorkshire Inter District League is a home match at West End against Leeds on Sunday, August 3.
