Hepworth teenager Holly Horsfall has achieved a lifetime’s dream when she smashed a forehand winner past a former Wimbledon semi-finalist on the manicured lawns of the All England Club.

The aspiring 15-year-old player has been inspired by the performances of Andy Murray and Laura Robson – and is now planning a return visit to SW19 to make headlines of her own.

Thongsbridge Tennis Club member Horsfall, a student at Holmfirth High School, was a winner at last year’s HSBC Road to Wimbledon tournament, joining forces with Emily Arbuthnott to win the girls’ doubles.

The prize was a chance to have a coaching clinic with four-time semi-finalist Tim Henman and Horsfall enjoyed every second of her appearance on Court 14.

“It gave me a real glimpse of what it is like to be a British player at Wimbledon – there were loads of people watching and I felt pretty nervous,” said Horsfall.

“I didn’t expect so many people to be here, they were probably watching Tim but it was a great experience and it must be amazing to be a British player competing here.

“I just want to get back here again now, I’d love to have that crowd on my side, it's just so inspiring. I felt a bit like a professional out there.”

Henman took time out from his commentary and All England Club duties to put some of the next generation of British players through their paces as part of grass roots tournament, which starts with 20,000 players nationwide and this year will conclude with finals on Wimbledon’s outside courts.

Horsfall will spend the summer travelling across Europe to build up her ranking points and is aiming to return to Wimbledon in next year’s girls’ singles event.

“I gained so much confidence from the HSBC Road to Wimbledon last year and I know it will benefit me as I continue my career,” she added.

“I love playing on grass, it really suits my game and it’s frustrating that we don’t have more junior tournament on the surface.”

Tim Henman is an Ambassador for HSBC, sponsor of the HSBC Road to Wimbledon National 14 and Under Challenge, the UK’s largest national junior grass court tournament.
