AMIRA MELLOR of Holme Valley Wheelers continued her winning form in the fourth Yorkshire Mountain Bike Nutcracker Series event.

The course at Parkwoods, Sheffield, was fast and technical with some exciting and unusual sections.

The Youth girls and boys raced three laps, each taking around 15 minutes, and Mellor claimed the win from fellow Talent Team rider from Bolton Hot Wheels, Martha Gill. Hannah Saville came third.

Joe Williams worked his way though the field and ended 14th in his first year in the age group. Winner was Frazer Clacherty from Richardsons Cycle Club, Scarborough.

Local riders included Dave Shaw and Gary Lodge from Huddersfield Star Wheelers with Shaw finishing in a great eighth place in the Vets category and Lodge, in his first race, came in 29th.

The Wheelers’ weekly 10-mile time trial at last had good weather.

A balmy night with low winds and lots of riders found themselves doing ‘season best’ times for the challenging course.

Winner was local talented rider Jacob Ragan in 22-52.

Other times included – Richard Anderson 24-46; Craig Moody 24-50; Steve Rimmer 25-04; Richard Binks 25-16; Darren Stringer 25-28; Chris Harris 26-38; Andrew Kerry 26-44; Dave Shaw 26-47; 1st lady Rachael Mellor 26-47; Gordon Moss 27-45; Justin Taylor 27-53; 2nd Lady Trish Mellor 30-07; Andrew James 30-57.

A cool and blustery afternoon did not put off some tough and keen young cyclists who ventured up to Hade Edge to take part in the Holme Valley Wheelers Go Ride Racing afternoon.

Organiser and lead coach Andrew James planned a variety of different races to keep the children interested and test the skills they had been learning in their Monday night Go Ride coaching sessions.

With a wide variety of ages and abilities some races werehandicapped, although some of the youngest cyclist showed the older and bigger ones how good they were!

The event could not have been so successful without volunteer helpers such as Lee, Jim and Tilly Brown, Rachael and Amira Mellor and Steve Rimmer and Andy Akers.

Next week it’s the Go Ride Racing, open to all local cyclists under the age of 16 who do not take part in Regional and National races.

The event will be held in the field opposite Thongsbridge Tennis Club, next to the cricket club, as it is an open day for tennis, cricket, football and bowling. All welcome.
