TYRONE NURSE will have Ricky Hatton in his corner when he boxes at Halifax on Saturday, June 30.

The former world champion turned promoter, pictured right, wants to take a first-hand look at the Huddersfield light-welterweight.

Nurse, 22, is a regular visitor to Hatton’s Manchester gym and could benefit from a link with the ex-WBA and IBF welterweight king, who is looking to seal a TV deal with Channel 5.

“Ricky doesn’t go in the corner too many times, so it’s great that he rates Tyrone so highly,” explained trainer Chris Aston.

Nurse will be out to bounce back from his first pro defeat, by Yorkshire rival Adil Anwar in the Prizefighter light-welter final in February.

Before that he clocked up 22 straight wins, his scalps including Dale Miles, who boxes former professional footballer Curtis Woodhouse in a British title eliminator in Rotherham tonight.

Aston, who also has Halifax’s Liam Walsh and Huddersfield’s Ismail Anwar on the Halifax bill, is likely to look abroad for an opponent for Nurse.

Tickets for the North Bridge Leisure Centre show are £30 (£15 for Under 16s) and £50 ringside. Ring Aston on 07917 881114.
