Tyrone Nurse could put himself in world title contention later this month.

Victory for the Huddersfield fighter in his British Light-welterweight title defence against Hull’s Tommy Coyle on July 30 may well open up a big opportunity.

It could also leave the 26-year-old with a tough choice to make.

Does he take on Ricky Burns for World honours, or does he go for a third defence of the British and win the Lonsdale Belt outright?

Nurse is sparring with unbeaten Spanish champion Nicolas Gonzalez at his Linthwaite base and trainer Chris Aston reports all is going well ahead of his appearance at the Leeds Arena on the Josh Warrington bill.

“Gonzalez is a serious handful and it’s been brutal sparring, but Tyrone is in front because he’s that little bit fitter, that little bit cleverer and that little bit better,” said Aston.

“There are no injuries, which is great, and the build-up has been very hard, so I reckon Tyrone is now ready to showcase himself against Coyle.

“Eddie Hearn has spoken of the possibility of the winner from July 30 maybe challenging for the world title – so there is every chance.

“And even though Ricky Burns is a good fighter, that’s one we would really relish.”

Nurse, who beat the highly-rated Willie Limond in Glasgow last time out, has 33 wins and a draw from 36 professional bouts so far.

“We’ve been to Scotland and won against Limond and we’d be prepared to go back and fight Burns,” added Aston.

“This Londsdale Belt we have at the moment, though, is a new one for the division, so the only name on it is Tyrone Nurse.

“It really would be special to win it outright with just Tyrone’s name on it, so that’s something which might have to come into the thinking further down the line.”

Nurse is hoping to have big support over in Leeds and tickets are available by ringing Aston on 07917 881114.
