Huddersfield Dragons Ladies hammer bottom of the table rivals

THE Ladies first team started the New Year with an impressive 4-2 home win over bottom of the league Driffield.

Rebecca Durrans gave them an early lead when she tapped the ball in from a short corner and Huddersfield continued to have the majority of the pressure but a quick break by the visitors led to a goal from a short corner.

The Dragons didn’t let this stop them from getting back in to the game and some battling on the top of the Driffield ‘D’ set up the chance for Kelly Fillingham to strike the ball into the back of the net, putting the Dragons back in front.

At the start of the second half the Dragons had a momentary lapse and allowed Driffield to equalise. After that Huddersfield came out even stronger and had the majority of the pressure.

The Dragons grabbed their third goal, Jane Inman scoring with a fantastic first strike from the top of the D following a short corner, and once Huddersfield were back in the lead Driffield had few chances.

Finally, a pass by Fillingham to player-of-the-match Durrans put the ball past the Driffield keeper for her second to complete a good return after the Christmas break.

Ben Rhydding Ladies III 5 Dragons Ladies II 1

A BAD day at the office is probably the best description of the Dragons seconds trip to Ilkley.

The Dragons were off the pace pretty much from the first whistle, while Ben Rhydding were eager and started to attack straight away.

Their play resulted in a series of short corners one of which they eventually they scored from, and when Dragons pressed for an equaliser they were quickly caught by a decisive counter attack and Ben Rhydding were two up.

Huddersfield managed to pull one back through Gwyneth Thomas and make it 2-1 going into half time, but the positive talk was quashed when Ben Rhydding scored another within two minutes of the restart. Dragons could not get back into the game and the home side dominated play in the second half adding two goals.
