The Huddersfield mens National Premier League Tennis Team clinched victory over David Lloyds York, keeping alive their hopes of a top three finish this season.

The four man team consisting of Elliot Walker, Stuart Gill, Paul Hull and captain Ben Gudzelak won the contest 3-1.

Gudzelak and Walker kicked started Huddersfield’s success with a 6-2 6-2 win over York’s second pair of Andrew Holmes and David McKenzie-James. But Stuart Gill and Paul Hull lost their match to York’s first pair of Sam Davies and Billy Ellison 6-0 6-3, which levelled the contest at 1-1.

In the second round of matches Gudzelak and Walker comfortably beat Davies and Ellison 6-4 6-3. Meanwhile Huddersfield’s Gill and Hull were battling it out with Holmes and McKenzie-James, taking the game to a nail biting third set, 10 point, championship tiebreak, which the experienced Gill and Hull won 10-5 to claim victory for their side.

Gudzelak was thrilled with his teams peformance this season, now knowing a win in their last match of the season will see them finish in the top three.

“I’m very proud of guys. They all gave their best effort throughout the tie and that is all i ever ask of my players win or lose. The third set win in the last match, by Gill and Hull, to clinch the tie was a really great effort and well deserved.

“A win away at Chapel Allerton (Sat 7 Feb) in our final match could take Huddersfield into the top three, which would be a great achievement in such a strong league,” said Gudzelak.
