HUDDERSFIELD’S Luke Booth will be setting off over the Irish Sea after being selected in the Great Britain Aussie Rules side for the European championships.

The tournament is to be staged in Dublin next month and Huddersfield Rams player Booth, who has already represented England and Great Britain, has been made vice-captain of the Aussie Rules squad for the European competition.

However, the Huddersfield RUFC player and former Drakes Huddersfield League cricket is facing a battle to get to Ireland.

With Aussie Rules receiving little funding the Great Britain squad are having to pay for kit, travel costs, accommodation and food on for the trip.

“The trip to Ireland will cost approximately £700,” explained Booth.

“After representing Team GB earlier in the year I am finding the trips very difficult to self-finance.

“I have found some funding, but I am still a little short and, with an August deadline, there is a chance I may have to turn down the invitation.”

Booth is still searching for sponsorship for the up-coming championship and anyone interested in helping can contact Booth, regarding potential sponsorship or donations, by email at lukeybooth@hotmail.co.uk
