THE CSD Logistics Cup threw up some very close games and unexpected results.

Holders Deighton B eased past Brooks C with a 52-point margin – Tomas Pietrzyk securing 36 of those with Galka and Weatherby gaining eight points each.

Kingsmith C, who lost to Deighton in the final last year, made an early exit this time round in a surprisingly heavy defeat to their D team.

It was an all-round team effort, with Dave Arnold, Dave Barrow and Peter Heywood all contributing to the 58-point margin.

Kingsmith F had no such margin of comfort as they finished just five points ahead of their fellow Third Division side New North Road Baptist Church.

They had Stuart Waring to thank as he gained 30 points, while his colleagues, Howard Birch and Naila Malik, were both in deficit. Ross Lander did well for the losers, gaining 21 points.

If that result was close, then two of Wilshaw’s teams took brinkmanship to a new level.

Wilshaw A travelled to Longwood to meet U3A . It could not have been closer, Wilshaw edging it by just one point.

Jim Baxter, with a handicap of 15, played well to gain 16 points but it all came down to a tense final match between Andy Parker and Geoff Ogden.

It started all square and Parker gained four points in the first game. However Ogden pulled it back, allowing Parker only six points in the final game which, with handicap added, gave Wilshaw victory by the narrowest margin.

Spare a thought, however, for the losers. Last year they lost at the same stage in the competition to Marsh E by the same margin, just one point!

Wilshaw C squeezed through against a strong Kingsmith A team by just three points. Good handicapping!

To complete a Wilshaw hat trick, the D team, strengthened with the inclusion of first teamer Ken Ward, beat a below-strength Scissett WMC A team by a comfortable margin. The B team, however, lost at home to a strong Deighton D side by 40 points.

Woodfield Park A comfortably beat fellow First Division side Deighton A, Kingsmith PW had only nine points to spare in overcoming a strong Marsh A side and Marsh E had a 43-point margin over Woodfield Park B

The youngsters of Golcar Liberal B gave an excellent account of themselves before going down by just 15 points to Shelley.
