THE Huddersfield Table Tennis League celebrated their 80th anniversary with a dinner at Outlane Golf Club.
Special guests included the Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Martyn Bolt, and his wife Liz, and Richard Scruton, deputy chairman elect of the English Table Tennis Association.
Several former champions attended including David Hirst, Geoff Brook, Richard Smith and Tim Dyson.
They all saluted Darren Lindley’s achievement in notching a record-breaking 11th Men’s Singles title when he beat Tim Dyson in April.
A presentation was made to chairman John Vaughan, who is retiring after 25 years in office as either secretary or chairman.
Other prizes were presented to Sarah Napier, who was awarded the most improved player, Paul Simpson, who won the Trevor Cockcroft Award for outstanding service to the League, and Bob Sanderson, who received the Allen Land Award for Sportsmanship.
