Huddersfield trained boxer Luke Keleher is back in the ring on Friday for the first time since his controversial defeat by Gary Murray in Scotland late last year.

The 28-year-old welterweight from Halifax, nicknamed ‘The Nuke’, will take on Gillingham’s Mick Mills at Elland Road in Leeds as both men look to bounce back after successive defeats.

Keleher, who has been working on a few combinations and improved footwork under Chris Aston at his Linthwaite gym, said: “It is a bad feeling losing a fight after very hard work in the gym.

“But you have to pick yourself up and have another crack. After the Murray loss, I had a much-needed break but once I got back into training it was all about focusing on getting that first win.”

Keleher was on the wrong end of a 58-57 referee’s verdict against Coatbridge’s Murray in nearby Motherwell.

“I think I deserved to win it, but with it being in Scotland, I would have taken a draw,” he said.

“But I am Luke the Nuke and I don’t want any fluke. I am going to Leeds to win. It will be a good test against a decent Southpaw and I’m up for it.”

Also on Friday at Doncaster Dome, Barnsley super-welterweight Matthew Mallin, who also trains in Huddersfield, fights home favourite Adam Jones.
