HOLME VALLEY Wheeler Amira Mellor won the sixth round of the Yorkshire Points Series Cyclo-Cross staged at Salendine Nook.

On a dry course there was no shortage of thrills and spills as riders made early attacks to gain advantage in all races.

Mellor made a good start and kept her nerve throughout as she chased down the lead group of Youth riders.

Coming into the last lap she made a fantastic effort to finish fourth overall, but was first Under 16 Girl home.

Chris Barnes (Zepnat RT) took the win from Alfie Moses (Paul Milnes RT) and Tom Seaman (Wakefield Junior Tri).

Mason Hollyman (Kirklees Cycling Academy) won the Under 14 boys race with another impressive performance.

Finn Cooper (Kirklees Cycling Academy) and Louis Cook (Holme Valley Wheelers) took second and third in the Under 12 Boys category and Millie Yates (Holme Valley Wheelers) and Amy Hinchcliffe (Wakefield Junior Tri) were second and third, respectively, in the Under 12 Girls race.

In the Under 10 Boys event Tom Sheard (Kirklees Cycling Academy) finished third with a powerful sprint to the finish line, as did Ruby Yates (Holme Valley Wheelers) in the girls category.

Benjamin Hodson (Holme Valley Wheelers) was edged into second place in the Under 8 Boys and Huddersfield Star Wheelers Amber Ford and Beth Howarth got first and third in the girls.

In the Veterans race Holme Valley Wheeler John Hick took an early fall and was out of contention despite some great efforts.

Ian Taylor (Craven Energy) and Chris Young (Pedalsport CC) finished first and second, respectively.

Local riders Tom Murray, Jacob Scott, Gabriel Cullaigh and Levi Moody turned in impressive performances at the third meeting of the Manchester Regional Track League.

In the opening 40 lap scratch race all four riders contributed to a very past pace and it was Murray who managed to hang on in the final sprint finish to get third place from Ollie Wood (BBM Sportscover) and Harry Tanfield (Velocity 29).

The pace in the 50 lap points race was also blistering at times and it was Scott who scored early points with a win in the first sprint.

Murray contended the following three sprints and got a total of 12 points, while Cullaigh and Moody were just outside points positions on all five sprints despite their aggressive riding.

In the final 64 lap scratch all four riders made their presence felt with some telling attacks throughout.

In the final sprint to the finish, a punishing 300 metre dash, it was Murray who got the win, with Cullaigh and Moody in joint third place.
