With only two weeks of the Slazenger Huddersfield Tennis League season left, it’s going down to the wire in Ladies Division 1.

Huddersfield A took on leaders and previously-unbeaten Thongsbridge A and came away with a stunning 10-0 triumph to maintain their slim hopes of retaining their title (Huddersfield have lost two matches so far this season).

Thongsbridge have destiny in their own hands as they play their last two matches and need only to avoid defeat against their own club’s teams – Thongsbridge B and C – to win the title, which has been dominated by Huddersfield in recent years.

In Ladies Division II a single point will guarantee Grove A promotion, with Huddersfield A and Marsden A battling for second place.

Longley B and Huddersfield C are already guaranteed promotion from Ladies Division III, but with two matches remaining it’s Longley B who hold the two-point advantage.

In Ladies Division IV it’s a three-way fight for promotion between Rastrick B, Grove B and Thornhill.

And it’s the same situation in Ladies Division V between Thongsbridge F, Shepley B and Linthwaite Methodist.

In the Men’s divisions, the general situation is more clear cut.

In Division I, barring a strong finish from second-placed Batley A, the title will once again go up the Holme Valley to Thongsbridge A.

In Division II, Thornhill have already secured the championship, with Thongsbridge B likely to finish in second place.

Division III is more interesting with three teams, Liversedge B, Denby Dale A and Marsden B being separated by only five points.

In Men’s Division IV, Holmfirth A are already guaranteed promotion and need one more win for the championship. Three other teams, Shepley B, Gregory Fields B and Oakfield B, still have a chance on joining them in Division III.

Cleckheaton B are also already guaranteed promotion from Division V and the remaining promotion place is a fight between Thornhill B and Linthwaite Methodist A.

In Men’s Division VI, Longley C have promotion guaranteed, but any one of four teams, Marsden C, Thongsbridge F, Holmfirth B and Hillside B still have a mathematical possibility of joining them.
