OVER the years I have tried to defend Tiger Woods somewhat aloof manner on the grounds that he was given an abnormal upbringing by a father obsessed by the drive to make his son famous.
A taciturn nature was born of a strange shyness and scepticism towards people in general, Tiger’s refusal to sign autographs an unforgivable product of his guarded approach to everything but the next tee shot.
Enough is enough, however.
That despicable spit across the 12th green of the impeccable Emirates course in Dubai represented yet another low in the life of a man who seems hell-bent on self destruction.
It’s time for the Tiger to grow up otherwise all his magnificent achievements in a sport which prides itself on good manners and tradition will be quickly tarnished and forgotten.
