HOLMFIRTH Harriers were led home by Jonny McLean in the fog and mud-bound Cop Hill Fell Race.

He finished eighth overall in the event superbly hosted by Meltham AC, who attracted 154 entrants and incorporated the YVAA Fell Championship.

Unlike the gloriously sunny and virtually mud-free conditions of the last couple of years, the fog came down and there was mud aplenty!

With the National CC Relays at Mansfield being held the day before, Holmfirth had fewer of their faster runners out, particularly among the women, but still managed 15 runners, 12 of whom were veterans.

McLean clocked 42min 56sec for his eighth and was followed home for the club by Andy Shaw in 11th (43-56).

Other Holmfirth results in the race were – 2nd M50 and 17th Gavin Baxter 45-07; M40 23rd David Roberts 45-42; 2nd M45 25th Darren Hanson 46-09; 3rd M45 41st Maz Khoueiry 48-09; M40 42nd Jacqui Khoueiry 48-10; 1st F35 49th Kevin Yewlett 49-23; 2nd M60 77th Keelan Sergeant 53-17 M; 108th Neil Midgley 58-48; M60 119th Bill Hunter 60-39; M65 120th Rob Halstead 60-58: M55 125th Rebecca Halstead 61-44 F; 127th Steve Hewitt 62-44 M55; 132nd Tim Cock 64-22, 2nd M70.
