Yorkshire Jets player Lydia Walker has been selected by England Netball for their initial Under 21 squad for their tour to Australia in July.

The 18-year old from Huddersfield is one of three Yorkshire Jets players on the list – the others are 17-year-old Brie Grierson from Leeds and 18-year-old Jess Shaw from Stockport.

The trio are among 19 on the list who will meet at a training weekend at the start of April when the final selections will be made.

Walker, who has represented England at Under 17 and 19 level, is from Lindley and played her schools netball with Salendine Nook and Greenhead College and club matches with Huddersfield Giants before joining the Jets for the current Superleague season – she made her Superleague debut in Jets recent win at Loughborough Lightning.

Jets head coach Anna Carter said: “I am delighted that Jess, Brie and Lydia have been recognised by the selectors at England Netball and named in the long-term squad for the tour of Australia in July.

“At Yorkshire Jets we are committed to developing homegrown players and these selections are another example of our hard work to achieve this.

“We all hope that Jess, Brie and Lydia make it through the training weekend in April and are selected for the tour itself.”

The focus for the England Under 21 squad is the upcoming Netball Europe Under 21 Championships, to be staged in Scotland in October, and the 2017 World Youth Championships in Botswana.
