LINDLEY WMC marched into the quarter-finals of the National CIU Snooker Knockout, but there was disappointment for Huddersfield’s Open champion Robert Read.
Having helped his teammates Naeem and Johnny Gallagher beat Buff Social Club from Teesside in Sunday’s last 16 battle up Brian Street, Read then took on ex-main tour professional Michael Rhodes in the individual event, but crashed out in the last 16 contest.
“Having come off the team match with a break of 99 (when he missed the final red for his century break) I missed two balls in the Individual and went down 3-0,” reflected Read.
Earlier in the evening, Read had helped make the score 2-0 after Gallagher had knocked in a 60 break in the first frame before Buff pulled a frame back when former World Amateur Championship player Anthony Parsons had made a 68 break against Naeem.
Gallagher’s second frame put his side 3-1 up against the National CIU champions before Read’s 99 against Gary Wilson had sealed victory.
Then it was on to the individual contest where Rhodes won the first frame with a couple of minor breaks before hitting 97 in the second, missing the 13th black when on a possible maximum.
And then in the third frame, the Buff player notched a 69 to end Read’s hopes of a quarter-final slot.
In the latest round of Yorkshire Billiards League matches Matthew Peaker won both his frames against Doncaster’s D Palmer and Bradford’s champion Steve Kershaw, making half-centuries, as Huddersfield’s No1 team won the first clash 7-0 before going down 4-3 in the second match.
Doncaster 0 Huddersfield No1 7: Brian Hoole lost to Steve Whiteley 150-200; D Palmer lost to Matthew Peaker 63-200; Laurence Torn lost to David Peaker 141-200.
Bradford 4 Huddersfield No1 3: Steve Kershaw lost to Matt Peaker 91-200; Paul Devitt bt Steve Whiteley 200-124; J McEachran bt David Peaker 200-194.
