The Huddersfield Table Tennis League has formally adopted Marsh Conservative Club as its home.

The Management Committee have held meetings there for several years and the recent decision to keep the League’s archives at the club has cemented this relationship.

One of Marsh’s table tennis playing members, John Schofield, modified a cabinet to display many of the League’s trophies and also made a cupboard to house archives, including League handbooks stretching back over 50 years.

The League plan to ‘unveil’ this collection at an informal launch on Saturday, November 15, when many former players as well as present ones are expected to attend.

Meanwhile, the present Marsh A team maintained their 100% start to the season with a 6-4 victory over Wilshaw Beech.

Tony Stead and Bob Sanderson both won twice and combined for the doubles. Glyn Normanton, deputising for Ian Tweedale, picked up the vital victory to seal the win. For the losers, Ken Ward was undefeated.

Kingsmith B welcomed a new addition to their squad when Xuan Hou (Tony) made his debut against Wilshaw Ash.

Impressive it was, too, as he finally came out on top in a fantastic five-game thriller with Janet Adams in his very first match, The Huddersfield University student then beat Neil Crosland but met his match in Tim Dyson. His were the only points gained by Kingsmith MARSH KEEPas they lost 8-2.

Larry Bainbridge was back in action for Scissett WMC A and in winning all three of his games and combining with Brian Armitage in the doubles, secured a 7-3 victory against Kingsmith C. Kevin Plowman won two in a creditable display.

In Division Two, Wilshaw Damson continued their fine run with an 8-2 victory over Kingsmith E. Nathan Spencer and Stefan Arak were both undefeated.

In a much closer encounter, Fountain of Youth shared a 5-5 draw with Shelley. Roger Wood was in fine form for Fountain, securing the scalps of both Phil Cockayne and Ed Bowen on his way to a hat trick of wins

Woodfield Park B had two hat trick performers when they beat Kingsmith PW 8-2.

Derek Moorhouse and Mike Belk were both unbeaten while Steve Knott and Moorhouse combined to take the doubles.

In Division Three, U3A continued their good start to the season with a 7-3 victory over David Brown B.

Andy Parker was undefeated while Doug Holt won twice, and the two of them maintained their unbeaten run in the doubles. John Davenport, making his first appearance of the season for Brown’s, could manage only one win.

Two of the Division’s unbeaten sides met when Scissett WMC B made the journey to Deighton E.

The visitors, back in the bottom flight after a brief flirtation in Division Two, came out on top 7-3.

Clive Standen, who previously played for their Division One side, has returned to Scissett after several seasons away through illness, He has a 100% record after four matches and he was supported by Neil Womersley (2) and Sarah Napier (1),
