Matthew Peaker has retained the Huddersfield Billiards Championship – beating his father David in the final.

It was a repeat of the 2011 final which Matthew also won and he came through this time 500-186.

Matthew was able to establish a fairly comfortable lead at PPG Canalside, even though he was not registering any sizeable breaks,

He was helped, in part, by David not being able to find any rhythm to his game, missing out on some reasonable chances to reduce the arrears.

By half way, Matthew led 250-92.

Early in the second half Matthew began to produce some of the better form for which he is known, running in breaks of 42, 34 and 64.

His father was still finding it difficult to get into gear, registering only 38 points in reply.

Matthew added another run of 32 on his way to reaching the finishing line and retaining the title.

There are two more finals on Friday.

Dennis Lomax and Peter Gilbert contest the Veterans Handicap at Canalside at 1.30pm while, at 7.30pm, it’s the Junior Championship between Josh Dyson and Josh Wenzel at Crosland Moor Con.
