Huddersfield Falcon’s trials riders had to contend with Olympic class competition as the club staged their fifth Championship trial of the season at Flockton’s Kirby Woods.

However, while Ed Clancy might be a gold medal winner on two wheels in cycling, he had to settle for an encouraging third place in the easy course novices class in the Falcon’s penultimate round of their club series.

On the Championship Course Andrew Jackson continued his run of good form with another win.

Jackson, who chose to ride a Gas Gas bike, was more than a match for the tricky conditions completing the entire trial for just one mark.

Second placed Simon Tyas also lost one here on his second lap, but ended up with four points against his name.

Tyas was out for the first time on a new four-stoke Montesa, which could have accounted for the three other marks he lost on his first lap.

Section four was also to prove the undoing of third placed Ben Robinson accounting for his entire total of six.

On the 50/50 route Ashley Ashworth dominated proceedings collecting just five marks to record a clear win over second placed Tom Tunstall the British Superbikes road-racer.

Ashworth made his intentions clear from the very first section where he escaped without penalty.

Tunstall, who is enjoying his trialling, was also particularly impressive with a no-stop style and some very stylish pivot turns.

Ashworth pressed home his advantage further on section seven and punished his closest rivals Tunstall and third placed Nick Eagleton who picked up marks on a tight section.

Mat Craddock, making a return to competitive trials, aced the clubman’s route recording a clear win over John Myers.

Craddock had a steady competition on his four-stoke Montesa, his biggest single loses coming on the tight twists and steps of section seven.

Myers, also making a return to regular trials, saw any chance of a win vanish and third place on the day went to Tony McKenzie on his Jotagas.

Best youth was Megan Savage who just got the better of Charlie Mosley.

The final round of the Falcon’s club championship will be staged at Horn Hill, near Holmfirth, on November 17.
