Mirfield youngster Sam Stead has bagged himself a big victory in the British Grasstrack championship event at Woodwalton.

The 12-year-old from Hopton became the British Junior Grasstrack champion on his 85cc motocross bike with a maximum of 60 points.

And to add to a successful meeting at the Fenland course Stead, a student at King James’s High School in Almondbury, was also runner-up on his 100cc grasstrack bike, missing out on first place in the section by just one point.

Stead, who has been riding in grasstrack for two years, is also in his first season in speedway and has won through to the British Junior Championship finals.

He won through by reaching the final of the qualifying event held at Ryehouse Speedway in Hertfordshire.

From a field of 12 riders Stead impressed in his four heats to reach the final where he came home fourth.
