Denby Dale racer Tom Tunstall narrowly missed out on a fourth top ten finish at Silverstone.

In the penultimate round of the British Superbikes Championship the 34-year-old Superstock 1000 racer bounced back from bike issues to take 11th place at the Northamptonshire track.

With a month’s break since the previous round at Oulton Park, the closely fought Superstock 1000 class fired back into life on the wide and fast 3.67 mile Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

Although the Doodson Motorsport-backed racer posted the 11th fastest time in the opening practice session on his Kawasaki, he was struggling with grip and stability from the back end of his machine.

Although adjustments were made for first qualifying, it was clear there was still an issue as he slipped down to 19th.

Overnight checks highlighted a resolution and the settings and amendments yielded a 13th place grid start for the race.

Tunstall lapped consistently faster than in qualifying and worked his way up to 11th and was closing down on 10th when he took the chequered flag.

“We were on the back foot early in the weekend and with limited track time were playing catch up,” said Tunstall, who now lies 13th in the standings.

“I’m satisfied with how we adapted and continued to make progress.

“Despite the issues we still had pace for the top ten by the race and I’m already looking forward to getting to Brands Hatch and ending the season with a strong result.”

The final round of the 2015 season takes place in just under two weeks with the teams returning to Brands Hatch for the season finale on the weekend of October 16-18.
