Denby Dale's Superstock 1000 racer Tom Tunstall notched up more British Superbikes Championship points at Thruxton with a hard earned 15th place.

However, the Doodson Motorsport rider was left frustrated knowing he had the pace for more.

Following a brace of top eight finishes, Tunstall travelled to the scene of his best result in last year’s championship and was confident he could build on his strong form.

Thruxton circuit in Hampshire is the fastest race circuit in the UK, with its fast sweeping turns and abrasive surface making it a unique challenge.

The meeting started strongly for the Doodson team with Tunstall posting the eighth fastest time in the opening practice.

Despite improving his lap time in both the qualifying sessions Tunstall was placed 14th on the grid for the 16-lap race.

“We had a solid start and that made us a little complacent with the bike set-up I got a kick up the backside after qualifying,” said Tunstall.

“On the first part of the race I lost too much ground, got caught up with riders scrapping corner to corner and was losing pretty much a second a lap.

“My race pace when I was clear was consistently quicker and it’s frustrating knowing that I was capable of more. But I’m glad we got in the points.”

The next round is at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on August 21-23.
