Holmfirth racer Bill Swallow has enjoyed some success – and the odd setback in the Isle of Man.

Racing in the Blackford’s Pre-TT Classic Road race the nine-times winner of the Manx Grand Prix, the retired Holmfirth High School teacher was in competitive mood on his Aermacchi, but hit problems racing the 500 Craven Manx Norton, which broke down in both races it started.

Swallow’s best result came in the 250-350cc singles when he was just pipped for first place by fellow Aermacchi rider Roy Richardson.

Richardson set the early pace with his fastest lap being the second of the six, while Swallow saved his best until last recording his best lap time on the final circuit.

In the 350cc Junior race Richardson again held sway over eight laps, with Swallow again producing his best time on the final lap to finish in fourth place – Alan Oversby setting a new lap record for the class only to then record a did not finish going out on lap five.
